Lydia Symposium – 20 May 2026
Queen Margaret University (QMU) warmly invites members of the public, people living with osteoporosis, and healthcare professionals to attend a symposium on 20 May 2026, dedicated to raising awareness and improving understanding of osteoporosis — a common yet often overlooked bone-weakening condition. This free public event will bring together world-leading experts to share the latest research, insights, and practical advice for living well with osteoporosis. Attendees will enjoy interactive sessions, including flamenco and exercise workshops, cooking demonstrations, and discussions designed to promote stronger bones and healthier lifestyles.
Led by the Lydia Plus Osteoporosis Project team at QMU, the symposium will shine a light on osteoporosis as an urgent public health priority. Affecting more than 3 million people across the UK — including around 250,000 in Scotland — osteoporosis can have life-changing impacts, particularly for older adults. The condition often progresses silently until fractures occur, making early awareness and prevention crucial. The event will cover key topics such as pregnancy-associated osteoporosis, hip fractures, and fall prevention, while also sharing practical strategies that extend well beyond medication.
Whether you are a healthcare professional, carer, family member, or someone who wants to better understand your bone health, this event offers a valuable opportunity to learn, connect, and take action. By joining us, you’ll gain up-to-date knowledge on nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle changes that can help maintain bone strength and reduce risk. Together, we can work towards a future where osteoporosis is recognised and addressed as a true public health priority.
Registration opening soon. Please email lydiaosteoporosis@qmu.ac.uk with any questions or to express interest. We will email you to let you know when it’s time to book your space.
